FAQ

Can I wash Merino?

Yes! Merino wool is a super fine fibre, which is exceptionally soft and naturally elastic. This also means Merino wool is able to retain its shape after repeated washing and stretching.

We recommend washing daily to neutralise any potential viral droplets. This can be done by simply soaking the product in warm water with a small amount of wool detergent. Alternatively, machine wash using the wool or delicate cycle.

See the Care page for more detailed cleaning instructions.

Can I wear Merino Lab neck gaiters as a face mask / covering?

Under Australian guidelines, yes. In Australia, only the state of Victoria mandates masks to be worn in public and under Government guidelines, this can be anything that covers the face (for more information, click here). If you want a face covering that's not a mask and are looking for something that's natural, comfortable, hypoallergenic and breathable to cover your face, our Merino neck gaiter could be a good option.

Would I be protected from virus transmission using the Merino Lab neck gaiter?

Please note our products are not medical grade and we cannot guarantee medical protection. We do offer PM2.5 filters which can be inserted into the fold of our neck gaiter to add extra layers of general protection.

We always recommend following the rules and guidance from your local authority and practice what makes you feel comfortable and safe.

What is a PM2.5 Filter?

Although the air we breathe is invisible to the naked eye, it can carry dust, vehicle emission, smoke, allergens, bacteria, viruses and other tiny particles.

PM stands for particulate matter and the 2.5 refer to the size of the particulate in micrometers. PM2.5 filters are made from activated carbon and non-woven melt-blown filter cloth to form 5-layers of protection.

A PM2.5 filter can be used for 1-3 days continuously (or 1-2 weeks of occasional use). PM2.5 filters are not washable and should be discarded and replaced after this time-frame. Ensure your hands are washed / sanitised before inserting or replacing the PM2.5 filter.
